Perhaps you are picturing a brighter bedroom, a more private living room, or the same clean finish across the whole house. A useful budget starts with the windows you want to change and how much of the assembly you would like to do yourself.

This guide explains our current product prices, shows how to work out a starting budget, and helps you choose between a kit and a pre-assembled shutter. Prices below were checked on 12 October 2026. They are our supply prices, rather than a national average for professionally installed shutters.

Four Australian made PVC options at a glance

ProductHow it arrivesStarting product price per m²
SmartKit DIY kit for assembly and installation AUD $258
EasyKit DIY kit for assembly and installation AUD $263
SmartShutter Factory pre-assembled for DIY installation AUD $366
EasyShutter Factory pre-assembled for DIY installation AUD $402

Prices are in AUD and include GST. Selected options and delivery are additional.

All four are made to your measurements. Pre-assembled shutters still need to be installed at home; the prices do not include an installer visiting your property. These are starting prices for the relevant standard configuration. Your selected frame, layout and other available options determine the final product total.

Think of this as two choices. First, choose the product system that suits your windows. SmartKit uses lightweight hollow-profile PVC blades; EasyKit uses aluminium-core reinforced PVC blades. Both have 89 mm blades. Then decide whether you would enjoy assembling the shutters yourself or would prefer the factory to take care of that part. SmartShutter is the pre-assembled SmartKit system, and EasyShutter is the pre-assembled EasyKit system.

You can explore the SmartKit and EasyKit systems, or compare the assembly options in our SmartKit guide and EasyKit guide.

What one window might cost

For a window measuring 1,200 mm wide by 1,200 mm high, the area is 1.44 m². Multiplying that area by the starting rates gives the following base product estimates:

ProductCalculationBase product estimate including GST
SmartKit 1.44 × $258 AUD $371.52
EasyKit 1.44 × $263 AUD $378.72
SmartShutter 1.44 × $366 AUD $527.04
EasyShutter 1.44 × $402 AUD $578.88

These examples help you compare choices for the same-sized opening. They are not configured quotes: selected options and delivery are additional, and any applicable minimum billable area is assessed per shutter. Use the product configurator for your actual dimensions and layout.

Small windows deserve a little extra attention. These four products have a 0.5 m² minimum billable area per individual shutter, so a 0.3 m² shutter is priced on 0.5 m². Work out each shutter separately rather than simply multiplying the total glass area across your home.

How much assembly would you like to do

A kit when you want to keep the product cost down

A DIY kit gives you the lower starting product price and lets you take on both assembly and installation. It can suit someone who enjoys a hands-on project and has time to follow the instructions carefully.

Start with one room if that feels more manageable. Seeing the first finished window can help you decide how you would like to approach the rest of the house.

Pre assembled when you would rather start with installation

A factory pre-assembled shutter removes the assembly stage from your to-do list. You still measure and install, but spend less time putting the shutter itself together.

For the 1.44 m² example above, EasyShutter is $200.16 more than EasyKit at the starting rates. That is a useful way to think about the choice: is doing the assembly yourself worth that difference to you, or would you prefer to put your time elsewhere?

There is no need to choose the lowest product price simply because it is there. The right option should suit your budget, your confidence and the time you have available.

Planning several rooms together

Imagine ten windows, each with a billable area of 1.5 m². That gives an illustrative project of 15 m²:

ProductBase product estimate for 15 m² including GST
SmartKit AUD $3,870
EasyKit AUD $3,945
SmartShutter AUD $5,490
EasyShutter AUD $6,030

This is a worked example, not a prediction of what a particular house will cost. Homes with the same number of bedrooms can have very different window sizes, layouts and requirements. Options, delivery and any separately arranged installation are outside these figures.

For this example, choosing EasyKit rather than EasyShutter reduces the base product total by $2,085. You take on the assembly work in return. Comparing those two routes for your own window list is more useful than relying on a general claim about how much every DIY customer will save.

If you are planning the whole house, make a simple room-by-room list. You can price everything together, then decide whether to order in one go or work through the rooms in stages. Compare the delivered totals for both approaches before choosing.

What can change your final budget

The shape and layout of each opening

A straightforward bedroom window and a wide opening with multiple panels are different projects. Frame choice, panel layout, divider rails and any available special options can change both the design and the price.

Our range includes different window configurations and materials, so the starting point is the opening you actually have. Check the options available on that product rather than assuming every size, colour or blade choice is offered across every range.

Choosing a different material or operating style

Timber, tracked bi-fold and outdoor aluminium shutters have their own product pages and pricing. An indoor PVC-kit budget should not be used as a quote for an outdoor sliding or folding system.

Explore timber shutters, tracked bi-fold shutters or outdoor aluminium shutters if those better suit the room or opening you have in mind.

Delivery to your address

Delivery is part of the project budget. Your postcode, carton count and consignment weight can affect the freight cost, so compare the product price plus delivery before deciding.

It is worth checking the freight for your actual window list early. That gives you a clearer budget and lets you compare like with like, whether you are choosing between our products or considering an installed quote elsewhere.

Your time and any help you arrange

Allow for measuring, assembly where applicable, and installation. If you plan to hire someone locally, ask for their price separately and check what the service includes. Tools or additional work on the opening may also need a place in your budget.

A customer example of making DIY worthwhile

In a customer review displayed on our website, Roger Stanhope reported receiving a $12,000 quote and completing his DIY purchase for under $7,000. It is a useful example of why some homeowners explore DIY, although his figures describe his own project and are not a promise for another home.

Your comparison can be simpler: price your own windows, include delivery, and decide how much assembly and installation you are comfortable doing. You will then know what the DIY route offers you.

A little planning makes the first step easier

You do not need to solve the whole house at once. Choose one window, follow the measuring guide and try the available product options. That gives you a real starting point for both the look and the budget.

DIY Plantation Shutters is factory-operated. Installation guidance, pre-production order review and photo advice are available to help you work through your choices. If a handle, shallow reveal or unusual opening leaves you unsure, send the relevant measurements and photos before ordering so we can discuss the frame and layout with you.

Follow the measuring guide, including the three-point checks. That small amount of care at the start is time well spent.

Questions homeowners ask about shutter prices

Is the price for a kit or a finished shutter

SmartKit and EasyKit prices are for kits that you assemble and install. SmartShutter and EasyShutter arrive factory pre-assembled for you to install. None of the prices in this guide includes an on-site installation service.

Are shutters priced by the window or by the square metre

The starting rates in this guide are per square metre. Each shutter is configured from its dimensions and options, subject to the product's minimum billable area. The configurator turns those choices into a product price for that opening.

Can I order one room first

You can plan your project one room at a time. Check delivery for each proposed order so you understand the total cost of staging the project, then choose the approach that suits your budget and schedule.

How quickly can Australian made PVC shutters be sent

The Australian-made PVC range is advertised with dispatch within 10 business days after order confirmation. Dispatch is when the order leaves us; transit to your address is additional. Imported made-to-order timber, tracked bi-fold and outdoor aluminium products have separate lead times, currently around 10–12 weeks from order confirmation.

How do I compare a DIY price with an installed quote

Use the same window list, material, layout and finish. Then compare the complete scope: product, delivery, assembly, installation and any extras. An attractive square-metre rate is helpful, but the delivered or installed total is what belongs in your budget.

What if I am unsure about my frame or measurements

Start with our measuring guide and the instructions for your chosen product. For a tricky opening, ask for advice with photos and dimensions before ordering. We can help you think through the visible frame and layout details while you check the measurements at home.

Start with the room you most want to change

Picture that window finished, then price the option that fits the way you want to tackle the project. Whether you choose a hands-on kit or a pre-assembled shutter, you can make the decision with a clear view of the work and the budget.
