Frame selection guide

Plantation Shutter Frame Types Explained

Quick answer: frame choice starts with mount position, not the profile name. Recess-fit L frame and Z frame sit within a suitable reveal, while face-fit L frame sits around the opening. U channel and hang strip suit selected layouts. Watch the five short frame videos, then check reveal depth, architrave, tiles and handles before ordering.

Start with where the shutter will sit, then compare the frame profiles available for that mounting position. The short animations below make the physical differences easier to recognise before you measure or configure a shutter.

Start with where the shutter will sit

Recess fit sits inside a suitable window reveal. Face fit sits over the wall or architrave around the opening. Decide this before comparing frame profiles.

L frame has two mounting positions

Recess-fit L frame is positioned inside the reveal; face-fit L frame is positioned around the opening. Watch both animations before choosing between them.

When Z frame can help

Z frame is an inside-mount option with a lip that can cover small gaps and reveal edges. Confirm there is enough reveal depth and operating clearance.

U channel and hang strip

These are alternative arrangements for selected designs where a conventional four-sided L or Z frame may not be the best match. Availability depends on the shutter product and opening.

These animations introduce the frame profiles; they do not confirm that a frame suits your opening. Always check the current product options and your exact millimetre measurements.

Architrave, tiles, handles, reveal depth and out-of-square openings can all change the best frame choice. We can flag obvious risks from the photos and measurements you provide, but final millimetre measurements remain your responsibility.
