Warranty

These warranty terms apply to eligible plantation shutter products bought directly from DIY Plantation Shutters. A warranty card is supplied with each order and outlines the cover for the product purchased. The schedule below summarises warranty coverage by product type, together with claim requirements and rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Warranty schedule

1. EasyKit and SmartKit DIY PVC shutter kits

  • Supplied PVC kit parts: Five years against defects in materials and workmanship.
  • Specified finish defects: Paint peeling, severe fading and yellowing are covered for five years.
  • Components and hardware: One year against defects in materials and workmanship.

Cover for EasyKit and SmartKit DIY products applies to the supplied PVC kit parts, specified finish defects, components and hardware listed above. Assembly and installation-related issues are assessed under the conditions and exclusions below.

This voluntary warranty does not include freight, assembly or installation costs, except where DIY Plantation Shutters is required to cover those costs under the Australian Consumer Law or another applicable law.

2. EasyShutter and SmartShutter Pre-Assembled PVC shutters

  • Pre-assembled PVC shutter: Ten years against defects in materials and workmanship.
  • Specified finish defects: Paint peeling, severe fading and yellowing are covered for five years.
  • Components and hardware: One year against defects in materials and workmanship.

This voluntary warranty does not include freight or installation costs, except where DIY Plantation Shutters is required to cover those costs under the Australian Consumer Law or another applicable law.

3. Imported pre-assembled PVC plantation shutters

  • Materials and workmanship: Ten years from the original purchase date.
  • Colour fading or discolouration: Manufacturing or material defects that cause colour fading or discolouration are covered for five years, provided the shutters have been installed, used, cleaned and maintained in accordance with DIY Plantation Shutters recommendations.

DIY Plantation Shutters will cover reasonable return freight costs for an accepted claim made within the first three months after purchase. After that period, the customer is responsible for arranging and paying for delivery of the affected product to the return address nominated by DIY Plantation Shutters, unless otherwise required by law.

4. Overseas timber plantation shutters

  • Materials and workmanship: Five years.
  • Colour fading: Three years.
  • Components and hardware: One year against defects in materials and workmanship.

This voluntary warranty does not include freight or installation costs, except where DIY Plantation Shutters is required to cover those costs under the Australian Consumer Law or another applicable law.

5. Bi-fold plantation shutters

Warranty coverage follows the material selected for the order:

  • PVC bi-fold shutters: The imported pre-assembled PVC warranty above applies.
  • Basswood timber bi-fold shutters: The overseas timber warranty above applies.

Track, specialist hardware and consumable-component claims are assessed according to the nature of the defect, the written order terms and the customer’s rights under the Australian Consumer Law. No separate voluntary warranty period applies unless it is stated on the product page, quote or order confirmation.

6. Outdoor aluminium plantation shutters

  • Structural manufacturing defects: Ten years where a manufacturing defect prevents the shutter from performing its intended structural function under normal stated outdoor application conditions.
  • Abnormal material colour failure: Five years.

Track, specialist hardware and consumable-component claims are assessed according to the nature of the defect, the written order terms and the customer’s rights under the Australian Consumer Law. No separate voluntary warranty period applies unless it is stated on the product page, quote or order confirmation.

7. Replacement parts and accessories sold separately

Replacement parts and accessories are covered by the Australian Consumer Law and by any specific voluntary warranty stated on the relevant product page, quote or order confirmation. The DIY kit warranty does not automatically apply to every separately purchased replacement part.

PVC panel width and weight

Due to the weight and characteristics of PVC, wider shutter panels may drop slightly when opened away from the frame. It may be necessary to gently lift the panel when closing it back into the frame.

  • For EasyKit and SmartKit DIY kits and local Pre-Assembled PVC shutters, this may occur on panels measuring more than 750 mm.
  • For imported PVC shutters, including PVC selected for a bi-fold order where applicable, this may occur on panels measuring more than 850 mm.

This movement is considered a normal characteristic of wider PVC shutter panels and is not a product defect covered by this voluntary warranty.

Conditions of coverage

Warranty coverage applies only where the product:

  • has not been altered or modified without written approval;
  • has not been misused, abused, damaged or neglected;
  • has been correctly measured, ordered, assembled and installed;
  • has been used only for its stated indoor or outdoor application;
  • has been cleaned and maintained according to DIY Plantation Shutters recommendations; and
  • has a genuine defect rather than deterioration caused by normal use, ageing or the installation environment.

Only PVC shutters in suitable white colour ranges should be installed on windows exposed to direct sunlight. Heat-related damage to dark or coloured PVC shutters installed on windows exposed to direct sunlight is not covered by this voluntary warranty.

What is not covered by this voluntary warranty

To the extent permitted by law, this voluntary warranty does not cover loss, damage or deterioration arising from:

  • abuse, misuse, neglect, accident or impact;
  • incorrect measurement, ordering, assembly or installation;
  • damage to the premises or surrounding property;
  • normal wear and tear, routine adjustment, cleaning marks or consumable components;
  • exposure of an indoor PVC or timber product to outdoor conditions or the elements;
  • excessive heat or moisture, or use outside the product’s stated application;
  • the use of silicone-based sprays, abrasive pads, solvents, strong chemicals or unsuitable cleaning products;
  • care or maintenance that is inconsistent with DIY Plantation Shutters recommendations;
  • unauthorised repairs or modifications;
  • building movement, an out-of-square opening or surrounding substrate failure;
  • colour variations between manufacturing or production batches, samples, display swatches, separate orders or products purchased at different times;
  • natural timber grain, texture or colour variation; or
  • natural fading or reduction in colour intensity caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight.

For the closest possible colour match, order all shutters intended for the same room at the same time. These exclusions do not apply where doing so would exclude, restrict or modify rights that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

How to make a warranty claim

  1. Contact DIY Plantation Shutters at [email protected] with your order number, purchaser name, delivery or installation address, product range, affected opening or part, and a description of the issue.
  2. Attach clear photos or video showing the issue, plus photos of the complete shutter and opening where relevant.
  3. Provide the original invoice or other satisfactory proof of purchase.
  4. Keep the affected goods and relevant parts available for assessment. Do not dispose of, alter or repair them before DIY Plantation Shutters has had a reasonable opportunity to inspect the issue.

What we will do

DIY Plantation Shutters will assess the information provided and may request further photos, measurements, return of an affected part or another reasonable inspection method. Subject to the Australian Consumer Law, an accepted voluntary warranty claim may be resolved by repairing the affected product, replacing the affected part or product with one of comparable specifications and quality, or providing another remedy required by law.

For a major failure, or any other situation where the Australian Consumer Law gives the customer a choice of remedy, that choice will apply.

Claim expenses

Except for the specific imported PVC return-freight provision above, removal, reinstallation, contractor, access, transport and site-rectification costs are not covered by this voluntary warranty unless they are required to be covered under the Australian Consumer Law or approved by DIY Plantation Shutters in writing before they are incurred.

Contact us before returning goods or incurring return freight, contractor, removal, reinstallation or site-rectification costs. If we ask you to pay an approved cost first, keep the receipt and send it to us for reimbursement. If the issue is not covered by this warranty or by law, we may decline the claim and may ask you to pay reasonable return freight or inspection costs, but only where permitted by law.

Australian Consumer Law

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

The benefits provided by this voluntary warranty are in addition to, and do not exclude, restrict or modify, any rights or remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable law. Consumer guarantee rights may continue after a voluntary warranty period has expired where the law provides.
