L Frame inside mount installation

How to install L Frame inside mount shutters

Use this guide when your shutters are supplied with an L Frame for inside-mount installation. Work through the frame assembly first, then level the frame in the reveal before hanging and adjusting the shutter panels.

Step 1

Check boxes, labels and tools

Place each labelled shutter box next to the correct window. You should have shutter panels, frame pieces and a small hardware box. Have a hammer, drill, suitable wall fixings and a spirit level ready before you start.

Step 2

Assemble the L Frame

Open the long frame box carefully and match the top, bottom and side frame markings. Lay the frame pieces face down on carpet or cardboard, then tap the bow-tie corner fittings into each corner to form the frame.

Step 3

Test fit and level in the reveal

Lift the assembled frame into the window reveal and position it where the measurements were taken. Check all sides with a spirit level. If the frame is not sitting level, use a hidden wedge or small piece of card to correct it.

Step 4

Fix lightly before final tightening

Start with one screw in each side of the frame so you can still fine-tune the position after the panels are hung. If fixing into brick or block, prepare suitable wall fixings first. If required, pre-drill near the hinges to about 10 mm deep.

Step 5

Hang the panels in order

Use the panel labels to keep each shutter in its correct location. Remove the hinge pins, lift each panel to the frame, align the hinges and drop the pins back in. Continue until all panels are hung.

Step 6

Adjust, lock and finish

Adjust panel alignment by moving the hinge up or down, then secure the hinge position with the small hinge screw. Fix the remaining frame screws, add caps or cover strips if supplied, and finish small gaps with caulk or filler if desired.
