General DIY shutter installation workflow

Start with this sequence, then open the specific guide for your frame, hang strip or track system below.

  1. Step 1

Match the guide to your shutter type

Open the guide for your frame or track system first. L Frame, hang strip, Z Frame and bi-fold aluminium shutters use different fixing points.

  2. Step 2

    Check every labelled part

Lay out the frame, panels, hinges, screws and tracks by opening before drilling. Confirm the labels match your order and window location.

  3. Step 3

Test fit and level the frame

Hold the frame or fixing strip in position, check it is level and square, then mark the fixing points lightly with pencil.

  4. Step 4

    Fix gradually and re-check gaps

Start with light fixing pressure, then check panel clearances before tightening. This helps avoid twisting the frame in an uneven reveal.

  5. Step 5

    Hang panels and adjust movement

Fit the panels, test swing or slide movement, then adjust hinge tension, magnets, catches or track alignment as needed.

  6. Step 6

Clean down and complete a final check

Wipe dust from the shutters, open and close every panel, and confirm louvres tilt freely before calling the job finished.
